(January 20 to February 18)
Why you’re stuck: You are afraid of difficulty. You lack the trust in yourself that it would take to overcome a hard-to-handle situation. You are operating from a place of fear rather than confidence.
What to do about it: Start small. Find a task that you should or need to complete that doesn’t so much scare you as it does annoy you. Once you accomplish that, keep working towards performing duties that are outside of your comfort zone. You are capable of much more than you give yourself credit for, so don’t let raising others’ expectations of you sway you from reaching your highest potential.
(February 19 to March 20)
Why you’re stuck: You are conforming too much to what you think other people will like. You are not operating from a place of authenticity, but rather, from a place of desperately wanting to be accepted.
What to do about it: Accept yourself first sounds like obvious advice, which it is, but it can also be the most difficult. Find out what it is about these people that make them worthy of so much power in your eyes. You may find it is just you that is creating their authority in your own mind. Recognizing this will help you gain the power back to live your most honest life.
(March 21-April 19)
Why you’re stuck: You are hung up on the way things should have been. You feel that you have been greatly wronged in some way or another, and can’t shake the mentality of feeling sorry for yourself and how things turned out.
What to do about it: Look for the silver lining. There is always a silver lining. You might not be able to see how this benefited you now, but one day you will be able to look back and say that you not only got through it, but it brought you to something greater. You won’t find anything greater than what you lost though if your hands are full with past hang-ups. See what else is out there and be brave.
(April 20-May 20)
Why you’re stuck: You want aspects of your life to change but you won’t make the necessary changes to yourself to attain them. You don’t fully understand that any life change begins with the ability to change yourself — your mindset, your habits, and your approach.
What to do about it: Start by changing how you look at what’s at hand. What is going well for you? What would you like to be better? What would it take for you to get from a decent life to an amazing one? Chances are if you have already asked yourself these questions, you are avoiding because you don’t like the answers. Once you take action though, you’ll realize that change isn’t so bad, especially when it ends with you getting what you want.
(May 21-June 20)
Why you’re stuck: You idolize what’s out there without appreciating what’s right here. Things will be better once -fill in the blank-. You are striving to cross a finish line that moves every time you approach it.
What to do about it: They say that hindsight is 20/20, so start there. Look at how far you’ve come and how many lessons you learned to get to where you are right now. Think about a situation you dealt with recently that you did not have the tools to deal with a year ago, a month ago, or even a few weeks ago. You are constantly growing and there is nothing wrong with aiming for the future, but let yourself be present every now and then. These days are making up your life.
(June 21-July 22)
Why you’re stuck: You have been isolating yourself in an attempt to fix yourself. You think that once you make yourself perfect behind closed doors, people will love you out in the open. You believe that success is something that comes when you cut yourself off from everything except your goals.
What to do about it: Success comes to those who ask for help when they need it. You cutting yourself off from the world does nothing but make you lonelier while you try to jump these hurdles. Reach out to a trusted friend or family member. If nothing else, there are endless types of communities both online and IRL for any interest you could think of. The first step towards not feeling like you’re alone, is proving to yourself that you are not.
(July 23-August 22)
Why you’re stuck: You are trying to change too many things at once. You are striving to be perfect in almost every area of your life. You are burnt out and discouraged.
What to do about it: Find your weakest point and go from there. Find the one thing that you most would like to change, and start there. You do not need to be perfect for anyone, especially yourself. You do not need to pursue interests that don’t align with your goals just to fit in or add to your resume. Perfection is boring and overrated, and unattainable for that matter. Don’t waste your time sweating over an unrealistic ideal, and work to pursue efficiency instead.
(August 23-September 22)
Why you’re stuck: You can’t make a decision. You keep going back and forth between ideas without the gumption to commit to any of them. You are afraid you are going to make the wrong decision.
What to do about it: Remember that nothing in life is permanent. Even a long commitment will end someday. You are fearing wasting your time so much that you are wasting your time with fear! Make that decision, and stand by it. Trust that you can work it out one way or another, because you can.
(September 23-October 22)
Why you’re stuck: You can’t let go of the past. You are trying to hold onto things that are far past their expiration date and you are closing yourself off to new people and experiences.
What to do about it: Try to put yourself out there more. Give people a chance that you normally wouldn’t otherwise. Not everyone is the same, you can’t keep rehashing the past blaming new people for old baggage. You just may find what’s on the other side of you holding yourself back to what you once were, is you propelling yourself forward into a new life.
(October 23-November 21)
Why you’re stuck: Objectively, you are doing just fine, yet you feel like you lack control. You jumble up the things that you must do with the things that you should do with the things that you want to do with the things that you could do. No matter what you do, you feel overwhelmed and even further behind than before.
What to do about it: Chill out. Let yourself be enough for once. Do the work that matters to you because it matters to you and not to prove anything to anyone else. Prioritize what you must do to keep yourself going, and spend the rest of your time doing your best to accomplish the rest. Let your best be good enough. You are your own worst critic.
(November 22-December 21)
Why you’re stuck: You refuse to acknowledge that you are stuck. You have been running on a hamster wheel for a while now, but haven’t actually come to terms with it yet. You fear the disruption that change will cause your decently okay life.
What to do about it: Consider what would happen if you broke out of your preconceived notions of happiness. Consider that maybe your life doesn’t have to be this way. It’s okay to be stuck and it’s okay to not know what’s next. The true pain comes in denying where you are right now. Ditch the shame and start pursuing the Next Big Thing.
(December 22-January 19)
Why you’re stuck: You keep comparing yourself to your friends’ social media accounts. No matter how much evidence there is that people are fake as hell on social media, you keep falling into the comparison trap. Your life just doesn’t look as good to you when it’s #unfiltered.
What to do about it: Reach out to the old friends that you feel jealous of. You could find that their lives aren’t all that picture-perfect outside of a screen. Not only will this reaffirm that you are doing just fine, but you also have the opportunity to nourish a connection rather than fuel your envy. What better way to combat unhealthy comparisons than that?
