The Bravest Thing You’ll Ever Do Is Love Again

Only the ones who have been hurt beyond repair know how hard it is to love again. How hard it is to place your heart in somebody’s hands and pray that they won’t drop it.

You are marked by your past, and there’s nothing you can do about it. You want love, but you don’t want the risk that comes with letting somebody in.

You know the story all too well by now. It starts like a dream and ends up being the nightmare. It lifts you up, and it ends with you in ruins. It starts with laughs and ends in tears.

You don’t want that again. You don’t want your mind to be messed with. You don’t want to trust in somebody and get betrayed. You don’t want your emotions played with.

That’s why you guard your heart. You built walls so high that it seems they are impossible to climb. It’s easier that way.

It’s safer than giving love a chance and picking up the pieces once more. It’s safer than opening up and being vulnerable. It’s safer to be alone.

You are used to be on your own after all. It’s not so much different than the relationships you are used to. They left you feeling so lonely that being alone actually feels better.

I agree, being alone is always better than being in a wrong relationship. But is it really an answer to shut yourself emotionally and stay away from relationships?

Of course not, and you will realize that one of these days.

You will realize that nothing in this life is worth it like love. It’s worth the risk. It’s worth the hurt. It’s worth all the wrong ones if they pave the path for the right one.

Once you realize that, you will see that you have more courage than you think. You will be willing to put yourself out there and give love one more try.

You are not even aware of it, but all you have been through thickened your skin. It made you stronger. It made you more resistable. It made you into someone who will get up, every time, no matter how hard the fall was.

It also made you filter out the good and bad. It made you notice the red flags. It made you more cautious. It made you more insightful and a better judge of character.

It made you see what you want and what you absolutely won’t tolerate. It made you establish standards and not go beneath them. It made you see your own worth, so you would never again settle for less than you deserve.

And even though there is no guarantee that you won’t get hurt again, it will give you a head start and better odds in choosing in whom you place your trust.

It might seem impossible now, but you will love again. You will meet someone who will be different than everyone you knew so far.

You will meet someone who will make your walls tumble down. You will meet someone who will make you realize why it didn’t work with anyone else before.

It won’t be easy for you to give love a chance. It will take all of your strength. It will make you face your fears and conquer them. And you will—there is no doubt about it.

You will love again, and it’ll be the bravest thing you‘ll ever do.
