Being Loyal Means So Much More Than Simply Staying Faithful

Loyalty should be one of the most basic expectations in a relationship.

It seems that for many, that’s not the case.

The problem is not everybody understands what loyalty is. The word has been trivialized to the point where it has little to no meaning.

It’s not only about sharing couple photos with profound captions or not seeing other people. In fact, it’s so much more than staying away from other people and not cheating.

Loyalty means standing your ground. Not letting anyone or anything change the things you believe in. It’s not letting other people’s perspectives interfere with your own.

It’s knowing what you believe in—the love you share with your significant other.

It’s choosing your lover every day, again and again.

Every relationship gets boring every now and then but that’s not a reason to search for a spark somewhere else.

Loyalty means you’re set on building a life with your partner—through good times and bad times, through fun times and boring times.

Relationships are no joke. If you want to have a solid foundation for your life and your well-being, you need to put in the work.

That means there will be days when your partner irritates you, when they hurt you, when you don’t understand them at all and even ask yourself: Is this really worth it?

Everybody goes through those periods but not enough people talk about it out loud.

It’s normal to question ourself from time to time, to give in and let the doubt and feelings overwhelm us. What’s not normal is to always give up when things don’t go the way you expected them to go.

Loyalty is about honesty, trust and commitment—in every situation, not just the good ones. When you really love someone, those things are easy.

Loyalty is letting your guard down when you feel defensive, being patient when you feel annoyed, always treating your partner with respect and protecting them when they need your protection.

Most of all, it’s seeing them for who they really are at all times and accepting them fully. Seeing through their temporary delusions or occasional pent-up emotional outbursts.

That’s what everyone deserves in their life and that’s why you should never allow anything less than that.

It’s possible to feel like your partner is disloyal without them cheating or flirting with someone. It’s possible to feel betrayed by someone’s decisions, acts and words.

If your partner’s behavior always leaves you feeling underwhelmed or insecure, it’s possible that they don’t understand the value of loyalty or they simply don’t care enough.

There’s no point in building and planning a life with someone who’s not willing to put in the same effort as you do because that’s eventually going to end or become toxic.

True loyalty can’t be disrupted with sudden opportunity. If you’re loyal, you won’t let weakness control your life or the life of your loved one and that’s the most attractive thing about you.

Not having to think about someone’s honesty is one of the most freeing feelings in the world.

Once you feel the peace that comes from complete trust, that’s when you know you’re with the right person.

You deserve a committed, faithful and strong love. Don’t expect it from those who aren’t even willing to be fully honest with you.

Don’t cling to people who constantly disappoint you or cross your boundaries. Don’t mistake how someone acts when they need you for loyalty. As soon as they get what they want, they’re gone.

Be aware of your value and what you bring to the table. Expect what you give.

Compromise is what relationships are made of but loyalty is a requirement.

It’s how you know the love is real.
